Description

History

Aegle marmelos, commonly known as ‘Bengal quince’, ‘golden apple’ or ‘stone apple’ is a deciduous shrub or small to medium-sized tree, native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is widely cultivated in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, tropical Africa and the United States. It occurs in dry, open forests on hills and plains. It has trifoliate leaves, pale green or yellowish flowers and slightly pear-shaped fruits.

Function

The leaf extracts of Aegle marmelos help control blood glucose levels and also show anti-oxidant properties. It is effective in the long-term management of diabetes.
